Coral Restoration Foundation
INFOGRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS
A collection of illustrations meant to convey complex information in simple & legible terms, each of these spreads was developed for the Coral Restoration Foundation annual report.
PROCESS OF REEF RESTORATION
I like to incorporate illustration into my design work whenever possible, so when tasked with creating an infographic of Coral Restoration Foundation's reef restoration process for our annual report, I was thrilled. I knew it would be a challenge as the process of reef restoration is complicated, but after a great deal of research and prototyping, I settled on the layout below. Each panel is hand illustrated and clearly depicts each restoration stage for Acroporid and boulder corals, as well as deviations from the standard path due to unforeseen circumstances like coral mortality, and ultimately loops back to the first panel.
ANATOMY OF A CORAL TREE
The heart of Coral Restoration Foundation's operation are its coral tree nurseries, so I knew I had to do them justice. Inspired by retro cutaways and scientific illustration, I used isometric perspective to create four illustrations of the different coral tree designs currently in use by the organization. Each hand drawn example features a floating island of sand, and labels outlining their unique components. The illustrative style is meant to blend perfectly with the annual report's design language, which I designed in tandem with these illustrations.
MAP OF GLOBAL LEARNING EXCHANGES
Global learning exchanges are increasingly important to the work of Coral Restoration Foundation. This illustration was fairly straightforward, but I wanted to make sure the world map matched the other illustrated elements in the annual report. After drawing the map location pins were also added to accompany each block of text.
