MY BACKGROUND
I was born far from the sea and found myself “held in it’s net of wonder” (as Cousteau once said) long before I actually laid eyes on it. I’d venture to guess this happened through the influence of eyewitness books & VHS documentaries from the local public library, but I’ve also felt an intuitive, deep-seated draw to the ocean for as long as I can remember. At that time I hadn’t witnessed any body of water larger than a man-made lake, but I felt in my bones that we were living on a blue planet, not a green one, and that the ocean was the most important habitat on earth. Nearly 30 years later, I still feel the same way.
The child of two painters, my creativity was always encouraged. My imagination ran wild with the possibilities of a future exploring the sea. I spent the first decade of my life designing submarines, underwater laboratories, and describing new species of marine life that might someday be discovered. Art allowed me to create worlds that didn’t exist for me at the time, and I never stopped creating. This led me down a path towards a creative career.
I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA in Motion Media Design. Today I am able to combine my unique passions for art, design, conservation, and marine science in my day to day work. I have a wide skill-set that I continue to grow each year, whether it’s underwater photography, sailing, or learning the latest creative software, I always indulge my curiosity and adventurous spirit.
